WHO WE ARE?

Georgetown Community Church is an Independent, Fundamental, Non-denominational, Bible-believing church, and is operated by Encountering the King Ministries, Inc. Pastor Jay Burkhart, Beth Burkhart and Associate Pastor Adam Burkhammer.

We hold the Bible alone, first and foremost as the source of our beliefs and teachings.

WHAT IS A BIBLE CHURCH?

Local churches have been in existence since the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Groups of believers who were of the same mind and heart joined together to form local congregations. Through the years, some churches have identified with various denominational groups. However, there have been independent churches during each period of Church History. Such churches still flourish today in almost every part of the world. An independent, fundamental Bible Church has several differences that set it apart from mainline denominational churches.

A CHURCH THAT IS INDEPENDENT

The churches established by the first century apostles of Christ began as independent churches. They were free from outside control over the affairs of each local church. Each local church was a self-governing body that chose its own officers (Acts 6:1-6) and exercised its own discipline (1 Corinthians 5:13). Preservation of pure doctrine was the responsibility of the local assembly (1Timothy 3:15); Revelation 2:14-16). Following this pattern, today’s independent church depends upon the Holy Spirit’s direction (Acts 13:1-3), chooses its own name, government and programs. It is free to call its own Pastor and invite into the pulpit any minister of the Gospel it deems sound in the faith. An independent church relies upon the Lord and the faithful giving of its own members for every need. This encourages faith, prayer, and spiritual growth among its members. It is self-supporting through the freewill offerings of its members (1 Corinthians 16:1,2; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

A CHURCH THAT IS FUNDAMENTALLY BIBLICAL

A Bible church emphasizes the use of the Bible in all of its regular services and activities. The Bible is presented as a guide for daily faith and living. The Pastor preaches and teaches directly from the Bible in his pulpit ministry. He is committed to a verse by verse study of the entire Word of God (Isaiah 28:10), to leading the membership in a clear understanding of its meaning (Nehemiah 8:3), of declaring it in its entirety (Acts 20:18-27), and encouraging them to apply its truths and principles to everyday living (2 Timothy 3:16,17). The educational program of the church is likewise centered in the Bible and is designed to develop Biblical values and standards by which to live. Sunday School teachers instruct from it. Teaching materials are based on it. Youth programs utilize it. Members are instructed in the methods of personal Bible study so they can learn and grow by it and discern truth from error (2 Timothy 2:14-18; 1 John 4:1-6).
